One third of workers overestimate the value of statutory sick pay

Around one third of UK workers (32%) overestimate the value of statutory sick pay (SSP) and are also largely unaware of the true cost of insurance products such as income protection (IP), according to research from The Exeter.

The insurer's Health & Financial Fears Report 2023 found that more workers overestimated the value of SSP than those who knew the amount of support they would receive (27%), while 8% believed they would receive more than double the actual amount, which currently stands at £109.40 per week.  Meanwhile, 18% of respondents were unsure whether they are entitled to receive employer sick pay at all.
